OUR MINISTRIES

The Gospel Choir wants to not only sing God's word, but also to spread His love to all we meet.  Here are a few channels through which Gospel Choir reaches people at MIT and around the Boston area.

Martin Luther King, Jr. Breakfast

This annual breakfast, held at the beginning of each Spring semester, is a celebration of meritocracy among minorities at MIT, as well as a celebration of those who amplify the spirit of Dr. King's commitment to peace, pluralism, and diversity.  This is run by MIT's Committee on Race and Diversity.

PULSE Culture Show

PULSE is the annual cultural show hosted by MIT's Black Students' Union. PULSE is held in Kresge Auditorium.  The goal of PULSE is to display all cultures and traditions of the African Diaspora in order to help our world appreciate how all of these cultures are intertwined.

Nursing Home Caroling

In past years, members have traveled to the Compass on the Bay nursing home for those with Alzheimer's to carol before the holidays.

Ebony Affair

Ebony Affair was started almost 40 years ago by members of the Black Graduate Student Association with the support of Dr. John Turner, Office of the Dean of the Graduate School. There was no semi-formal/formal event for Black graduate students at MIT and students felt there was a need for such an event. Since then, the BGSA, and recently, the Council for the Advancement of Black Students (CABS) has presented the Ebony Affair each spring to the MIT community. Entertainment usually includes live bands, jazz and dancing along with other performances. Attendance has ranged from 200 to 400 students, faculty, staff, alumni, and friends of the MIT Community.

MIT Gospel Fest

This concert is a chance for Gospel-based groups from the Boston area to gather together and praise the Lord! The MIT Gospel Choir hosts these different groups for this event, which is usually in April. It has been several years since this event has been held, but we hope to revive it soon!

Church Visits

Each year, the choir performs at some local churches. We are available for booking for church services!  This past fall, we performed at First Union Baptists' Church for their College Student Sunday.  The choir led 2 worship songs and performed 2 selections.  We are available for booking for other Sundays!
